The Polish finance minister has signed a regulation that will keep VAT on basic foodstuffs at a zero rate in the first half of 2023.

“We are prolonging the application of the zero VAT rate on food,”

Magdalena Rzeczkowska was quoted in a finance ministry statement on Saturday.

“As it is today, this rate will cover basic foodstuffs, such as fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy or grain products,”

    she added.

In late October, Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister, announced plans to keep the rate at zero. He estimated the cost to be borne by the state budget at “some PLN 8 billion (EUR 1.72 bln), or above PLN 8 billion.”
