“We are currently witnessing the systematic harassment of judges by the Prosecutor’s Office. These are the standards of oppressive, undemocratic regimes—not of a democratic state governed by the rule of law. This situation is absolutely scandalous,” said Prof. Aleksander Stępkowski, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, commenting on the case involving Judge Maria Szczepaniec, revealed by Niezalezna.pl.
Today, Niezalezna.pl disclosed that Supreme Court judge Maria Szczepaniec was summoned for questioning by the Prosecutor’s Office on the very same day she asked Adam Bodnar, during a Supreme Court session, whether he considered himself a “neo-senator.”
“It was four hours of brutal, oppressive attacks,” the judge said about the interrogation, which she believes was a form of retaliation.
Members of the judiciary are outraged by the incident.
“I fully share Judge Szczepaniec’s belief that there is a connection between the questions she asked the Prosecutor General during the July 1 session and her being summoned for questioning that same day. I also see a link between that day’s resolution and the retaliatory charges brought against the First President of the Supreme Court. We are currently facing systematic harassment of judges by the Prosecutor’s Office. These are the standards of oppressive, undemocratic regimes—not of a democratic state governed by the rule of law. This situation is absolutely scandalous,” said Prof. Aleksander Stępkowski, Supreme Court judge and spokesperson for the Supreme Court, in an interview with Niezalezna.pl.
