Rubio in Munich: U.S. “Has the Evidence” – Europe Reacts with “Relief”

A year ago in Munich, JD Vance spoke about censorship. It was not “alleged” censorship – it was documented censorship, in black and white, based on documents obtained under oath. Marco Rubio spoke in Munich as a representative of a state that holds this evidence. And European leaders reacted with “relief” to the softer tone – this is how Maciej Świrski assessed the speech delivered by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the Munich Security Conference.

The head of American diplomacy, Marco Rubio, firmly denied claims that the United States seeks to create divisions in transatlantic relations. – The United States wants to revitalize the transatlantic relationship – he declared during the Munich Security Conference. – We want Europe to be strong and to endure – the politician emphasized. As he explained, the blunt tone of U.S. President Donald Trump is intended to stimulate and renew relations with Europe.

“While newspaper headlines proclaim the end of the transatlantic era, let it be clear to everyone that this is neither our goal nor our desire,” Rubio said, calling America “a child of Europe” and Europeans “friends.” He also spoke critically about deindustrialization and called for the protection of borders against mass migration.

Maciej Świrski, former head of the National Broadcasting Council, conducted an analysis of Marco Rubio’s speech in the context of data recently disclosed by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.

“The substance of this speech is identical to JD Vance’s address a year ago at the same forum, the very one that European capitals condemned. Only the rhetorical form has changed,” Świrski pointed out.

The committee in question presented an extensive report several days ago concerning alleged censorship and regulatory actions by the European Commission toward electronic media, as well as Brussels’ influence on elections in several EU member states, including Poland in 2023.

“In December 2025, Rubio imposed visa sanctions on five European officials responsible for digital policy, including former Commissioner Thierry Breton, describing them as part of a ‘global censorship-industrial complex.’ On the same day the House report was published, French police carried out a raid on the offices of the X platform in Paris,” Świrski recalled.

He stressed that Rubio in Munich spoke “as a representative of a state” that holds evidence of the censorship JD Vance had referred to a year earlier.

“And European leaders reacted with >>relief<< to the softer tone,” Maciej Świrski added.

The former head of KRRiT argued that the program presented by Rubio, based on “sovereignty, faith, skepticism toward supranational institutions, criticism of migration and climate policy, demands for reindustrialization and defense self-reliance,” is “a program that Poland as a state proposed to Europe in 2015-2023 and for which it was punished with infringement procedures, the blocking of funds, and a delegitimization campaign.”

“The current government of the Republic of Poland has based its policy on integration with the European mainstream and a ‘rules-based order.’ Rubio publicly announced that this order is finished,” he assessed.
