Ruling Camp Targets Attorney Lewandowski: “Methods Unworthy Even of a Hardline Communist Regime”

Comments have not died down following a post by government spokesperson Adam Szłapka concerning attorney Bartosz Lewandowski. The Civic Coalition politician accused Zbigniew Ziobro’s defense counsel of being pro-Russian. The attack by the governing camp has drawn critical reactions from members of the legal community as well as opposition politicians.

“The list of law firms designated for Russian citizens in Poland was drawn up by Moscow after the barbaric invasion of Ukraine. It includes ‘KHANZADYAN LEWANDOWSKI & PARTNERS.’ The same firm is now defending Ziobro. Everyone can draw their own conclusions,” Adam Szłapka wrote on X.

In response, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski announced that he would file a lawsuit against the politician. However, the consequences of these actions will be felt by the entire December 13 coalition, as the lawyer has prepared a letter informing international legal organizations about the government’s actions, which are at odds, among other things, with the requirements of a resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Lawyers: Lewandowski will not give in

The attacks on the attorney by the ruling camp have triggered a wave of comments within the legal community. Its representatives point out, among other things, that those in power have been stung by Lewandowski’s effectiveness, but that such attacks will prove counterproductive.

Opposition: Even communism wouldn’t be ashamed of such methods

The case is also being commented on by politicians, who note, among other things, that the authorities’ actions are reminiscent of communist practices and that the aim is to intimidate an attorney who often represents members of the opposition.

It is also worth noting that attorney Lewandowski previously published a list of accounts that had further disseminated defamatory allegations directed at him. The lawyer has no doubt that “this was a premeditated and coordinated action promoted by the Civic Coalition and the Prime Minister.”
