SAFE Clears Sejm Hurdle – Final Decision Now in President’s Hands

The Sejm has adopted, by a majority vote, all four amendments previously approved by the Senate. The act implementing the EU rearmament program SAFE was passed by most Members of Parliament. The document will now be submitted to President Karol Nawrocki, who has 21 days to make a decision.

The Sejm approved four amendments proposed by the Senate to the act implementing the EU rearmament program SAFE. They concerned, among other things, ensuring that repayment of the loan will not be financed from the budget of the Ministry of National Defence, and introduced an obligation for anti-corruption and counterintelligence oversight, as well as a reporting requirement for the Minister of National Defence.

“This is the final stage of work on a bill that has generated significant interest, emotions, and public debate. Nearly 12,000 Polish companies will be involved in the implementation process of the act,” said Andrzej Grzyb, Chair of the Sejm National Defence Committee.

The amendments concerning anti-corruption and counterintelligence oversight, as well as reporting obligations, were adopted unanimously.
