“We are submitting a draft bill that guarantees – and requires – that anyone who wants to become a taxi driver must provide a certificate of no criminal record from their country of origin. A taxi must be a safe space for Polish women,” said Law and Justice (PiS) vice-chairwoman Anna Krupka during a press conference.
Today, a press conference was held by politicians from Law and Justice. Anna Krupka, the party’s vice-chairwoman, referred to a tragic event from November 2024 that took place in the Białołęka district of Warsaw, and announced the party’s upcoming initiative.
Poland has, for several months now, been becoming less safe for women. This concerns not only safety on the streets of Polish cities and towns, but also during rides. In November 2024, a Polish woman was brutally raped by a Georgian national in a Bolt vehicle. That could have been any of us, she pointed out.
There Will Be a Draft Bill
She announced that PiS will propose a draft law aimed at improving safety during transport.
“That is why, as Law and Justice, in cooperation with the chairman of NSZZ Solidarność (Polish trade union federation) of taxi drivers, as well as MP Janusz Kowalski, we are launching a legislative initiative aimed at increasing the safety of women during rides. Women want to feel safe in taxis. That is why we are submitting a draft bill that guarantees – and requires – that anyone who wants to become a taxi driver must provide a certificate of no criminal record from their country of origin. A taxi must be a safe space for Polish women,” she stated.
