The CEO of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz, left questioning at the National Prosecutor’s Office at around 11:00 a.m. “I declared my full readiness to testify if I am summoned by a legally appointed prosecutor and if the scope of the summons corresponds to the circumstances on which I am to be questioned”, Sakiewicz said after leaving the hearing.
The National Prosecutor’s Office summoned Tomasz Sakiewicz as a witness in connection with a case involving, among others, Zbigniew Ziobro. From early morning, thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the prosecutor’s office, expressing support for Sakiewicz and for freedom of speech. Among them were representatives of the Gazeta Polska Clubs, the Border Defense Movement, Solidarity, as well as members of parliament.
At around 9:30 a.m., Tomasz Sakiewicz went to the questioning accompanied by his legal representatives. He left the hearing at approximately 11:00 a.m.
In a conversation with Jarosław Olechowski, head of publishers at TV Republika, Sakiewicz indicated that “the prosecutor was very polite”.
“I declared my full readiness to testify if I am summoned by a legally appointed prosecutor and if the scope of the summons corresponds to the circumstances on which I am to be questioned. They wanted to question me in the matter referred to by the leadership of the prosecutor’s office, but not the one that was the subject of the summons”, said the CEO of TV Republika.
After leaving the prosecutor’s office building, addressing the gathered demonstrators, Tomasz Sakiewicz stated that “no one at the National Prosecutor’s Office can properly draft a summons”.
“This shows a complete collapse of knowledge of the law or a lack of any need to comply with it – we are dealing with an unbelievable embarrassment of the prosecutor’s office. It is astonishing that even while setting a trap for me here, they were unable to properly draft the summons. This shows that the end of this system is approaching”, he announced.
“Contrary to announcements, I was not charged. Perhaps they will punish me, as such announcements were made, but not today”, he added.
He reported that he was questioned by a different prosecutor than Piotr Woźniak, who had signed the summons.
“This is falling apart – the fact that they assign some unfortunate person to do the job instead of them reflects very poorly on them”, he assessed.
