Sakiewicz on Court Delays: “The Longer It Drags On, the Easier It Is to Undermine Testimony”

“There is already a problem with remembering exact dates and facts, because more and more years are passing, and people may not recall everything accurately. That makes it easier to undermine,” said TV Republika president Tomasz Sakiewicz in an interview with the portal Niezalezna.pl, commenting on the date set for the next witness hearings in the civil case brought by Tomasz Grodzki, scheduled for October 2026.

Aside from the criminal case, a civil lawsuit filed by Marshal Tomasz Grodzki against Tomasz Sakiewicz is also underway before the court. The case concerns an article describing a bribery scheme operating at a hospital in Szczecin.

During the most recent hearing at the end of October, Adrian Stankowski was questioned as a witness. The court has scheduled the next hearing for 15 October next year.

“A complete paralysis of the courts’ functioning is taking place. Judges cannot keep up, because more and more of them are struggling to adjudicate due to the actions of the current government. If their ability to perform their profession is challenged solely because they were appointed to their positions in recent years, the situation will only get worse,” said Tomasz Sakiewicz in a comment for Niezalezna.pl. He added that if this situation continues, future hearing dates may be set even two years ahead.

Distant court dates work in favour of one party

Sakiewicz assessed that the further the witness testimony is scheduled from the time of the events they are supposed to recount, the easier it becomes for the opposing side to undermine those statements.

“There is already a problem with remembering exact dates and facts, because more and more years are passing, and people may not recall everything accurately. That makes it easier to undermine,”

he stressed.
