The Presidential Palace has responded to comments made by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who, while criticising the president, referred to… the Smolensk tragedy. “There are limits to political dispute. The source material for Sikorski’s remarks about the late President Lech Kaczyński and the Smolensk Air Disaster is the Russian IAC report,” wrote minister Paweł Szefernaker.
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has recently attacked President Karol Nawrocki. Referring to the president’s comments on the Polish-British treaty on security and defence cooperation, he invoked… the Smolensk air disaster.
“There was already a president who was asked, despite not having such competences, to approve the selection of an alternate airport, and he failed to make that decision in time. We all know how it ended. And I would ask President Nawrocki not to go down that path” – said Sikorski, clearly alluding to the death of President Lech Kaczyński.
The presidential circle received the Foreign Minister’s remarks with disbelief. Sikorski’s statement was commented on by Paweł Szefernaker.
“There are limits to political dispute. The source material for Sikorski’s remarks about the late President Lech Kaczyński and the Smolensk Air Disaster is the Russian IAC report. Sikorski holds the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs today because it is Donald Tusk’s whim. After yesterday’s statement, it is hard to treat him as a partner in public debate. There are behaviours after which a person deprives themselves of the most basic respect,” wrote the Head of the President’s Political Cabinet.
