Tomasz Lenz (a senator from the Civic Coalition) has spoken out about a procedure that allegedly took place at a hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski. He claims the patient was his minor son and stated that the media coverage “does not reflect the actual course of events.”
According to reports, a procedure may have been carried out at the hospital bypassing standard protocols. As reported by Wirtualna Polska, the patient who allegedly received special treatment was a relative of Senator Tomasz Lenz, and in order for the procedure to take place, an anesthesiologist and the head of surgery were required to leave their intensive care duties.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 15. According to the outlet, at around 3:00 p.m., Lenz and a relative entered the hospital and—bypassing the admissions department—went directly to a treatment room in the surgical ward. Shortly afterward, the honorary consul of the Republic of Tunisia in Poland, Lotfi Mansour, arrived at the facility, parking in the ambulance bay. He is also a member of the Civic Coalition and, privately, a physician. The senator and his relative left the hospital at around 7:00 p.m. the same day, as we reported earlier on Niezalezna.pl, citing information from Wirtualna Polska.
The case quickly gained public attention, prompting the hospital director to launch an internal inquiry. He stated that the procedure could not be billed under the National Health Fund (NFZ) and that it remained unclear who would cover the cost. He also did not rule out notifying the prosecutor’s office.
Eventually, Senator Tomasz Lenz himself issued a statement:
“In connection with false information published by Wirtualna Polska, I declare that the material presented does not reflect the actual course of events regarding the medical service provided to my minor son. The procedure was performed in a hospital setting by doctors on duty that day, in accordance with proper medical procedures. Due to the nature of the service and the child’s safety, it was not possible to carry it out in a primary care setting. Claims regarding a lack of documentation or consent for the procedure are also false. Documentation was prepared, and my son left the hospital the same day after 6:00 p.m., following the necessary observation period and with doctors’ approval. It is particularly disturbing that the health of a minor child is being used to construct a sensational media narrative based on anonymous accounts and insinuations. Should false information violating the personal rights of myself and my minor son continue to be disseminated, I will take appropriate legal action.”
Notably, the Civic Coalition politician did not publish the statement on social media, instead sending it to a local branch of Gazeta Wyborcza. He also failed to clarify what role Lotfi Mansour played in the situation or why he appeared at the same place and time.
It is worth recalling that several years ago Tomasz Lenz (then an MP from Civic Platform) drew attention for proposing a “temporary suspension” of the 14th pension benefit. The controversy ended with a declaration that he would not run for the Sejm again from the Civic Coalition list. However, the party later placed him on its Senate list, and Lenz ultimately secured a seat in the upper chamber.
