Journalist Mateusz W., a presenter for the TVN24 channel, has been detained in an investigation conducted by the Wrocław Prosecutor’s Office. Former Chief of Police Zbigniew M.—currently in custody—is also a suspect in the case. The journalist has been suspended from his professional duties.
Prosecutor Karolina Stocka-Mycek, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław, confirmed to the media the information first reported by Wirtualna Polska that TVN24 presenter Mateusz W. was detained by the CBA. “The man is a suspect in an investigation in which former Chief of Police Zbigniew M. is also a suspect,” the prosecutor said.
Stocka-Mycek added that, for the time being, the Prosecutor’s Office would not disclose any further details.
Wirtualna Polska reported that the court has placed Mateusz W. under three months’ arrest, and that his detention is connected to an organized crime group investigation.
The TVN press office announced that, following the charges brought against the journalist, he has been immediately suspended from his professional duties pending clarification of the matter.
