Ahead of this year’s Fat Thursaday—a traditional Polish holiday celebrated by enjoying sweet pastries—the Law and Justice party (PiS) released a new campaign spot drawing attention to what it calls a dramatic rise in doughnut prices under Donald Tusk’s coalition government. According to PiS, the cost of a single doughnut has increased by 31 percent compared to 2023, while those sold by discount stores have seen an even steeper hike of 42 percent.
In the brief video posted on the party’s social media account, PiS argues that “Poles are living worse and worse,” claiming the current administration is “focused on everything but Poland,” leading to soaring prices across the board. The ad specifically targets the recent cost-of-living crisis, with the steep doughnut price climb cited as an example of broader economic challenges.
Polakom żyje się coraz gorzej. Drożyzna bije kolejne rekordy. Dziś w #TłustyCzwartek za pączka 🍩 zapłacimy nawet 40% więcej niż w 2023 r. 😮 #TuskoDrożyzna pic.twitter.com/HkKaXrikbC
