“This is a test not only of Poland, but of the whole NATO. Not only military, but political. (…) This is a test for NATO, whether there will be any response beyond words. And it will be a test of the relations between Nawrocki and Trump,” said Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in a radio interview. Despite Russian aggression, Sikorski continues to attack the American administration.
The violation of Polish airspace that occurred during the night of September 9 to 10 is seen by the Foreign Minister as a broad test not only in the military dimension, but also in the political one.
“This is a test not only of Poland, but of the whole NATO (NATO). Not only military, but political. (…) This is a test for NATO, whether there will be any response beyond words. And it will be a test of the relations between Nawrocki and Trump,” Sikorski summed up.
The situation is serious, yet he could not refrain from making a jab at the President of Poland and his cabinet.
“The new team at the Presidential Palace is discovering the usefulness of exchanging information,” he stated.
Sikorski blames Americans for indulging Putin
The Foreign Minister also continues to attack the American administration. “Sanctions against Russia were supposed to come into force on August 4 or 8. They did not, and Putin has become emboldened,” he said.
He also added that “the facts are that the USA has stopped funding Ukraine’s defense, and it is the European Union that is doing so,” which “has allocated much more to Ukraine’s defense than the USA.”
“If Putin were ready for peace, he would introduce a ceasefire. I am not one of those who believe in a quick resolution of this conflict. This is a colonial war, and such wars usually lasted for decades,” the politician assessed.
He further noted that in international negotiations, goals are achieved not only with the stick, but also with the carrot. “President Trump’s administration has no stick against Putin, it mainly has a carrot,” Sikorski said. He also expressed hope that “our right-wing politicians will be asking this question of Donald Trump’s administration.” “I hope that President Trump will finally lose patience and realize that Putin is testing him,” Sikorski said.
