“There is a real risk of slipping into an authoritarian system. Greedy bureaucrats from Brussels are installing their puppets in every country. The question is whether we can return to the will of the people, to democracy, to constitutional order. Karol Nawrocki and I are standing against the European dictatorship,” said Romanian presidential candidate George Simion on the “Michał #Rachoń” program on TV Republika.
Simion Backs Karol Nawrocki
Romanian right-wing presidential candidate George Simion visited Poland on Monday, attending a meeting with Karol Nawrocki in Zabrze.
Simion, leader of the nationalist AUR party, secured nearly 41 percent of the vote in the first round — outperforming polls by as much as 20 points. This weekend, he will face pro-European Bucharest mayor Nicușor Dan in a runoff election. On the same day, Poland will hold the first round of its presidential vote.
Appearing on TV Republika, Simion said:
„I won with 41 percent — a large margin. It’s nice to be here, thank you for the invitation. I’ve been to Poland over 20 times. It’s a beautiful country of hardworking Christians. We are facing the same challenges,” said the politician.
Tusk Attacks Simion: “It’s Nonsensical”
Simion also responded to criticism from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who claimed “Russia is pleased” with Simion’s endorsement of Nawrocki.
„From a political point of view, this is senseless. Perhaps Donald Tusk wants his candidate to lose. Poles are very sensitive to these matters, especially since Donald Trump’s administration had poor relations with Donald Tusk’s administration. Tusk’s administration uses the judiciary to pursue political opponents. They’re going after TV Republika. Donald Tusk is making mistake after mistake. In the last week of our campaign, we decided to come to Zabrze and appear with Karol Nawrocki. That was a wise decision, because I can’t achieve much alone as president. We need friends and allies. Poland and Romania are now the 5th and 6th most populous countries in Europe. We are candidates of common sense. We are not candidates of the corrupt Brussels elite,” he said.
Simion wskazał, że „since high school, I’ve been dealing with Russian propaganda, I know its tricks.”
„Now they’re creating frozen conflicts. They want to spread chaos. Putin should have been stopped in 2014. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in politics then. I participated in a public protest against the annexation of Crimea. Donald Tusk, Angela Merkel — they were friendly with Putin at the time. They didn’t want to impose sanctions. Across the free world, people are tired of these corrupt politicians. Through very stupid policies, they create nothing but poverty,” he emphasized.
U.S. Lawmakers Warn the European Commission
Simion also commented on a letter sent by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to the European Commission, raising concerns about what they described as unlawful and anti-democratic actions by the Tusk government — particularly its pressure on TV Republika.
Asked about the state of democracy in Romania, Simion warned:
„There is a risk of collapsing into an authoritarian system. Greedy bureaucrats from Brussels are placing their puppets in every country. On Sunday, we must choose democracy. This will be a choice between democracy and dictatorship, also in Poland. We don’t want those who impose censorship, send the police, and arrest former ministers to win. Putin is a dictator. In December, with not a shred of evidence, they canceled elections in Romania. The reason was that they didn’t like who won. In March, Romania became like Iran or Belarus. Romania has a regime somewhat like Iran, where elites decide who is allowed to run. There’s a huge risk in Romania. It’s a testing ground for them. The question is whether we can return to the will of the people, to democracy, to constitutional order. Karol Nawrocki and I stand against the European dictatorship,” he declared.
He emphasized that in his view, „the current European bureaucrats are doing what Russia wants.”
„When they don’t win, they’re ready to go as far as breaking the free world — just to stay in power. We must maintain unity within NATO,” he concluded.
