Śląsk Wrocław Joins Flood Relief Efforts: Players and Coach on the Front Lines

Śląsk Wrocław, the football team from the capital of Lower Silesia, has joined efforts to fight the ongoing flood crisis. Players and coach Jacek Magiera were seen filling sandbags to strengthen the riverbanks of Wrocław, as the city prepares for the largest flood surge.

The team had been scheduled to play Stal Mielec in the 8th round of the Ekstraklasa on Monday. However, the match was canceled due to the flood threat. Rather than taking to the pitch, the players, including notable names like Jehor Macenko, Sebastian Musiolik, Mateusz Żukowski, and Łukasz Bejger, along with Bulgarian Simeon Petrow, rolled up their sleeves to help safeguard the city.

In a statement, club spokesman Jędrzej Rybak said, “The action was spontaneous. We received word that volunteers were needed, and the Śląsk players, coach Magiera, and club staff decided to help. We must support each other.”

In addition to their physical efforts, Śląsk Wrocław launched a fundraising initiative to assist flood victims. The club is selling virtual tickets, equivalent to the capacity of Tarczyński Arena—43,000 seats—at 10 złotych each, to raise money for those affected.
