South Hospital Scandal. Hospital Director Knew About Irregularities a Year Ago

New information has emerged regarding the scandal at South Hospital in Warsaw. According to findings by TV Republika, in July last year the hospital’s management received a letter detailing allegations against Dawid Kacprzyk.

South Hospital Scandal: New Facts

As early as a year ago, associates of Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski were reportedly aware of the situation at South Hospital. TV Republika obtained a document that was delivered on July 21, 2025, to Anna Łukasik, the hospital’s then-president.

The authors of the letter, acting on behalf of the Department of General and Proctological Surgery, pointed to serious problems in cooperation with a physician working in the hospital’s Emergency Department (ED).

“On behalf of the Department of General and Proctological Surgery, we would like to provide specific examples of the difficulties in cooperating with physician Dawid Kacprzyk. Our cooperation with Dr. Kacprzyk has been difficult and marked by numerous conflicts since the beginning of his work in the Emergency Department. These conflicts are initiated and escalated by Dr. Kacprzyk, and attempts by the Surgery Department staff, including the head of the department, to ease tensions have proven ineffective.”

The management of South Hospital had therefore received reports of irregularities related to the operation of the Emergency Department as early as July of last year.

The letter also described the handling of patients who might require surgical consultation. According to its authors, practices used during Kacprzyk’s shifts allegedly resulted in patients being routinely referred for additional examinations and consultations without a prior comprehensive assessment by a physician.

“Cases have been recorded in which consultation orders were edited or modified after being entered into the system. Such actions are inconsistent with the principles governing medical documentation and may constitute a serious violation of applicable regulations, bearing the hallmarks of document falsification. We emphasize that any changes to the content of an order should be clearly documented and justified in accordance with established standards.”

Another section concerned the admission of patients to the Surgery Department despite an alleged lack of indications for surgical treatment. According to the letter’s authors, this involved patients who required care in other medical specialties.

“Based on decisions made by Dr. Kacprzyk, patients with internal medicine, intensive care, urological, and gastroenterological profiles were repeatedly hospitalized in the Surgery Department despite the absence of indications for surgical treatment there. Such practices are inconsistent with the principles of proper patient allocation and may negatively affect the quality and efficiency of medical care.”

Enormous Earnings

The authors of the letter also referred to Dawid Kacprzyk’s remuneration. They argued that his earnings were disproportionate to both his level of professional experience and the scope of his duties.

“It should also be emphasized that Dr. Dawid Kacprzyk’s earnings, amounting to tens of thousands of złoty, were disproportionate to his skills and responsibilities. These earnings raise doubts regarding their legality during his period as a trainee, are demotivating for staff members who often possess significantly greater competencies yet cannot expect similar remuneration, and, most importantly, suggest that political connections are valued more highly than professional qualifications.”

Questions for Anna Łukasik

TV Republika journalist Piotr Nisztor sent a text message to Anna Łukasik, the former president of South Hospital, asking what actions the hospital’s management had taken after receiving reports from the Department of General and Proctological Surgery.

In her response, Łukasik did not directly address the allegations against Dawid Kacprzyk outlined in the letter. Instead, she stated that she had notified prosecutors about the conduct of one physician toward Kacprzyk.

“I informed the prosecutor’s office about Dr. Jędrzejewski’s conduct toward Dr. Kacprzyk. The matter is still being investigated by the prosecutor’s office,” she replied.

Trzaskowski’s Response

Today, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced that South Hospital has a new Supervisory Board.

The new board consists of Anna Walicka-Dąbrowska, Katarzyna Taraszkiewicz-Sirocka, and Prof. Mariusz Bidziński.

“This composition guarantees a combination of experience and expertise in many areas, ranging from law and corporate governance to medical knowledge,” the politician said.

The South Hospital and Dawid Kacprzyk Scandal

The controversy surrounding Dawid Kacprzyk, former coordinator of the Emergency Department at South Hospital and a former councilor representing the Civic Coalition, began with a report published by the Polish news portal Zero.pl, which closely examined his financial disclosure statement.

The document indicated that Kacprzyk earned 1.6 million złoty from medical activities in 2025. According to media reports, he claimed nearly 4,000 working hours at the hospital alone.

Further revelations followed. Kacprzyk reportedly corrected 33 invoices and returned half a million złoty to the hospital, while the institution filed a notification with prosecutors regarding a possible fraud offense. Following the scandal, he lost his position, left the Civic Coalition, and resigned his councilor’s mandate.

The greatest controversy, however, surrounded reports of an informal fast-track system and a so-called “VIP lounge” operating within the Emergency Department, allegedly used by Civic Coalition politicians and people connected to them. In response, Mayor Trzaskowski dismissed the entire management board of South Hospital. An audit is expected to clarify, among other things, how a room to which Kacprzyk allegedly had access was being used.

According to TV Republika’s findings, the list of patients who allegedly used the VIP lounge included Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska and her husband, as well as Warsaw City Council Chairwoman Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska. Media reports also mentioned the names of senators Aleksander Pociej and Krzysztof Kwiatkowski.
