Successful start to Australian Open for Poles

    Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

On Monday, Iga Swiatek beat her first opponent at the Australian Open, Jule Niemeier 2:0 (6:4, 7:5). Hubert Hurkacz, on the other hand, won 7:6, 6:2, 6:2 against the Spaniard, Pedro Martinez and advanced to the second round too.

    World-class

It was clear from the outset that Iga Swiatek was the clear favourite in her duel with 69th-ranked WTA Jule Niemeier. After a long and at times very demanding match, Iga defeated the German 6:4, 7:5

After the whole match, it can be seen that World No.1 found a way against Niemeier. She had to force the opponent to run around the court, making her less able to react so quickly.

Swiatek’s rival in the second round will be Camila Osorio, who defeated Miss Udvardy 2:0 (6:4, 6:1).

    Hubert moves on

Hubert Hurkacz’s first opponent was the 60th-ranked Pedro Martinez in the ATP rankings.

The clash with Martinez started calmly. Both players focused on holding their services and there was basically no major fight in these games. The hot moment was only in the 11th game, when, at 5:5, the Spaniard was leading at 30:15. Then Hubert activated his strongest weapon, the serve, and closed the game expressively.

The World’s 11th tennis player withstood the test of nerves. The Pole was very focused and tried to hold the lead at all costs and he succeeded. He won against the Spaniard 7:6, 6:2, 6:2 and thus advanced to the second round of the Australian Open. In it, he will play against Lorenzo Sonego or Nuno Borges.
