Supreme Court to Hold Public Hearings on Electoral Protests Next Week

Next week – on June 27 – the Supreme Court has scheduled two public hearings dedicated to electoral protests. These cases involve proceedings in which the Court requested local (district) courts to conduct an inspection of ballot papers from several precinct electoral commissions, Supreme Court spokesperson Aleksander Stępkowski announced.

According to the Court’s docket, the two public hearings concerning protests against the election of the President of the Republic of Poland are set to take place in the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court on June 27 at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively.

The hearings will address, among other matters, an electoral protest reported last week. In that case, the Supreme Court admitted evidence in the form of ballot inspections from a total of 13 precinct electoral commissions, including commissions in Kraków, Mińsk Mazowiecki, Bielsko-Biała, and Grudziądz.

“In several cases, the Supreme Court either submitted similar requests to district courts or conducted evidentiary and verification procedures on its own. At least in the case of these two protests, public hearings will be held. Whether judicial panels in other cases will choose to do the same is a separate matter,” Judge Stępkowski stated.

He added that responses from the district courts “have been arriving gradually,” and it is likely that “the results of these ballot inspections will be presented” during next week’s public hearings.
