Law and Justice (PiS) MP Paweł Jabłoński has submitted a parliamentary inquiry concerning the visit of Belarusian spy Tomasz Szmydt to the Sejm in March 2022. The visit took place at the invitation of Civic Coalition (KO) MP Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz. “I submitted an inquiry in this matter with a simple question: have these individuals been questioned during the investigation regarding their cooperation with the Belarusian agent?” the MP announced. He has already received an official response.
A Belarusian Spy in the Polish Parliament at Gasiuk-Pihowicz’s Invitation
On April 29, 2022, Tomasz Szmydt was present on the premises of the Polish Sejm at the private invitation of MP Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz. He later fled to Belarus. On May 6, 2024, he appeared at a propaganda press conference in Minsk.
The Belarusian state news agency BelTA reported that Szmydt had asked the Belarusian authorities for “care and protection.” The traitor subsequently began appearing in Belarusian and Russian media, repeating the narratives of local propaganda.
PiS MP Paweł Jabłoński filed a formal inquiry regarding Szmydt’s visit to the Polish Parliament.
“In this disinformation operation, alongside Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, participated Arkadiusz Myrcha, Michał Szczerba, and other MPs from the Civic Platform. A month ago, I submitted a parliamentary inquiry with a simple question: were these individuals questioned during the investigation concerning their cooperation with a Belarusian agent?” the politician wrote.
The answer he received from the authorities was as follows:
“Information concerning ongoing proceedings, areas of interest of the security services, and the tools they use are, as a rule, classified and not made public.”
“This may surprise some, but I will not attack Tomasz Siemoniak over this matter – information covered by a secrecy clause should remain confidential. However, I will request access to them under other legal provisions, in accordance with my rights as a member of parliament and senator,” Jabłoński declared.
He also added that “the matter of Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, Arkadiusz Myrcha, and Michał Szczerba’s cooperation with the Belarusian agent must be clarified – and I assure you, it will be.”
