Teacher Salary Hikes Proposed, Excludes Funds for Tusk’s TVP: President Submits Draft Law

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

We are currently submitting a presidential draft law with salary increases for teachers in the Sejm, but without 3 billion PLN for the illegally taken over public television – conveyed to the media by the head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych.

On Saturday evening, the president decided to veto the budget-related law for 2024, which included 3 billion PLN for public media. There can be no consent to this due to the blatant violation of the Constitution and the principles of a democratic rule of law – he justified. As he stated, after the holidays, he will submit his own draft to the Sejm, concerning, among other things, salary increases for teachers and other expenditures planned in the budget-related law.

Ignaczak-Bandych told the media today that a representative of the chancellery is currently submitting the presidential draft law with salary increases for teachers to the Sejm, but without 3 billion PLN for the illegally taken over public television.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, referring to the president’s announcement on the X platform, wrote that the veto “takes money away from preschool and beginner teachers, while lifting the ‘chimney tax,’ allowing unlimited raises for state-owned company and agency presidents.”

Shame. Merry Christmas, Mr. President. I reassure the affected: we will handle it

added Tusk.

President Andrzej Duda responded to him.

“Mr. Prime Minister Donald Tusk, I’m glad you write that you will handle it. This means that, as I appealed, you will convene the Sejm and Senate after the holidays and vote on my law, which includes salary increases for teachers, etc., but without 3 billion for public media. And mutually – Merry Christmas, Mr. Prime Minister!”

President Andrzej Duda responded to Tusk on X.
