The Green Deal: A Threat to Europe’s Economy?

Maciej Małecki warns that the EU’s Green Deal threatens Europe’s economy by increasing production costs, leading to job losses and reduced competitiveness.

Economic Competitiveness at Risk

Maciej Małecki, a politician from Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party, has voiced strong criticism of the EU’s Green Deal, calling it a “harmful agenda” pushed by left-wing politicians in Brussels. He argues that strict climate regulations will weaken European industry, making it less competitive on the global stage. While Europe contributes only a small fraction of global CO2 emissions, major polluters like China, India, and the U.S. continue to grow without similar restrictions. Małecki emphasizes that Poland, like the rest of Europe, needs access to affordable and stable energy to remain competitive.

Job Losses and Industrial Relocation

According to Małecki, the Green Deal’s costly environmental policies could lead to factory closures and job losses, as businesses relocate to regions with fewer restrictions. He draws comparisons to Donald Trump’s policies in the U.S., which focused on cheap energy to boost industrial competitiveness. By contrast, Europe’s strict climate rules may hinder growth, making it harder for European companies to compete globally. Małecki calls for the rejection of what he sees as harmful ideological policies, arguing that economic growth should take priority over rigid environmental targets.
