The Left will not take part in the May march announced by the Prime Minister, spokesperson for the New Left, Łukasz Michnik, has stated. According to him, the march is intended to mobilize support for Rafał Trzaskowski. He added that the Left has its own march, held annually on May 1st to celebrate Labor Day.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk invited people to join a grand May “patriots’ march,” scheduled for May 11th in Warsaw at noon.
Łukasz Michnik, the spokesperson for the New Left, was asked about the Prime Minister’s planned march on RDC radio.
“Donald Tusk is talking about a major election rally,” Michnik emphasized. In his view, the goal of the march is to rally support for the Civic Coalition’s presidential candidate, Rafał Trzaskowski.
“The Left will not take part in this march,” Michnik declared. He pointed out that the Left has its own presidential candidate, Magdalena Biejat, and intends to focus all its efforts—especially demonstrations—on her campaign.
“We also have our own march, which we have been organizing for many years, every year on May 1st,” he stressed. He added that the Labor Day march is ideologically important to the Left, and this year, they plan to celebrate it in grand fashion.
