The “Myrcha case” returns. Wielowieyska defends the PO couple. This could turn into a scandal

The report by Adrian Borecki from outside the home of Kinga Gajewska and Arkadiusz Myrcha sparked major controversy. Online, there were both words of support for the journalist who took on the subject, and fierce criticism. A surprising statement on the matter was published by Gazeta Wyborcza and TOK FM journalist Dominika Wielowieyska.

Adrian Borecki, together with a cameraman, found the political couple at their house in Błonie. They, however, were not eager to talk.

The deputy minister of justice refused to speak to the journalist, but commented on his presence on X:

“Stop harassing us! We are in our home, legally put into use. Filming, shouting at our children, or blocking the gate is plain harassment. One more time and I will take legal action. We have the right to privacy. If you have questions, direct them to the Sejm or our offices,” the politician warned.

The Republika report echoed widely in the public sphere. Borecki became the target of furious attacks, which in turn triggered a wave of support for the journalist. Former EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski stood up for him.

“Defending Adrian Borecki from the brutal attacks against him should unite everyone who cares about press freedom, regardless of political beliefs,” the politician stressed.

But Gazeta Wyborcza journalist Dominika Wielowieyska also stepped in—naturally not in defense of the Republika reporter, but of the politician couple.

“There are MPs who rent a larger shared apartment in Warsaw, and both of them collect housing allowances from the Sejm. This includes those who have houses near Warsaw. But the criticism falls only on one married couple of MPs. Harassing them in their private home by Republika is vile,” she accused.

When asked by Patryk Słowik from Wirtualna Polska which MPs she meant, she backed out:

“I will not disclose that, because I obtained this information unofficially. I will only add that they are not from the Civic Coalition.”

“So who is it about? It really makes no sense for criticism to focus only on two MPs, when more could be added,” Krzysztof Stanowski chimed in.

Wielowieyska remains adamant—she knows, but won’t tell.

Back in October of last year, the couple’s public allowances came to light:

“Gajewska receives 4,000 PLN from the Sejm Chancellery for renting an apartment in Warsaw. Gajewska’s husband, Arkadiusz Myrcha, also receives funds from the Sejm Chancellery for the same purpose. In his case, the amount is 3,750 PLN. Together, therefore, they receive 7,750 PLN from the Sejm budget—since the couple lives together, that’s how this sum should be viewed. What is even more striking, Gajewska declared in her asset statement that she owns a 166-square-meter house valued at 700,000 PLN. In Myrcha’s 2023 asset declaration, meanwhile, we read that he owns a 55.40-square-meter apartment valued at ‘about 450,000 PLN,’ as we reported.”
