“Don’t smirk under your breath when your beloved chairman says that we will win the 2027 elections,” Donald Tusk told members of the Civic Coalition (KO). The Prime Minister also revealed the new-old name of the party.
On Saturday at noon in Warsaw, the national convention of the Civic Platform (PO) began. It marked the moment when PO absorbed two of its coalition partners – Modern (Nowoczesna) and Polish Initiative (Inicjatywa Polska).
During the opening, Tusk argued that a series of planned panels would focus on “how to enter the golden decade.” He said, “I want to tell you that if we are joining the forces of Modern, Polish Initiative, and Civic Platform, it is because we all believe that a golden decade lies ahead for Poland,” he insisted.
“The golden decade must be you – those who will defend Poland from what, during this golden decade, may threaten us – from the East and from within. There is no question of rest, not even for a single day. You have before you a task for the coming months and years. There can be no demobilization,” Tusk urged.
He addressed the skeptics, saying, “Don’t smirk under your breath when your beloved chairman says that we will win the 2027 elections.“
“The last thing you’re waiting for – what do we call ourselves today? We are the Civic Coalition. As the Civic Coalition, we have already won elections. And we will win the next ones. We don’t need to invent anything; no tricks. Only truth, only strength, only goodness,” he concluded.
The Prime Minister’s speech was reviewed in several posts by Gazeta Polska editor-in-chief and TV Republika president Tomasz Sakiewicz.
In the first post, he wrote ironically: “Tusk announces his resignation? – I prefer to live in a country where the thief is afraid, not in power…“, suggesting that the Prime Minister had essentially admitted to being surrounded by dishonest people in government.
In the next post, he shared the question: “Which politician has the nickname ‘Beloved Leader’?” The answer referred to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il, which Sakiewicz used to mock Tusk’s own words about “your beloved chairman.”
In the third post, he commented sarcastically: “Once again, Tusk has outpaced Kaczyński: he was the first to dissolve Civic Platform (PO)…”, referring to the fact that Civic Platform had formally absorbed its coalition partners, ceasing to exist as an independent party.
