Whistleblower Doctor in the Crosshairs of Those in Power: “Nothing Here Is Happening Normally”

“If the role of the prosecution service in this case were to clarify suspicions of very serious crimes allegedly committed by a Civic Coalition activist working at this hospital, prosecutors would have long since been inside the relevant hospital offices securing documents,” said Zbigniew Ziobro while commenting on the scandal surrounding Warsaw’s Southern Hospital.

Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, the former head of department at the hospital, gave a shocking interview yesterday in which the name of Dawid Kacprzyk was mentioned. Serious allegations were directed at the young doctor, who has not yet completed his specialization training and is also a Civic Coalition activist. Cases involving deaths in the Emergency Department coordinated by him are to be investigated.

Immediately afterward, prosecutors summoned the doctor for questioning. Dr. Jędrzejewski declined to answer prosecutors’ questions without legal counsel present, even though they reportedly prepared dozens of questions. Civic Coalition politicians have already begun portraying the doctor as unreliable and allegedly unwilling to cooperate with investigators.

Zbigniew Ziobro, former Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, also commented on the matter.

“Nothing here is happening normally. Given the scale of the irregularities and the information that has already been made public, it is obvious that the standard course of action for the prosecution service in such a case should be the immediate entry of the relevant authorities and prosecutors into the hospital in order to secure the documentation necessary for conducting proceedings regarding all of the alleged criminal offenses that have been seriously indicated by numerous facts,” he said on Telewizja Republika.

“Why should the prosecution act with particular urgency here? Because the hospital is managed by individuals connected to a party that is deeply entangled in these pathologies. That party may have an interest in obstructing the investigation, falsifying records, or ‘cleaning up’ documentation,” Ziobro warned.

“If the role of the prosecution service in this case were to clarify suspicions of very serious crimes allegedly committed by a Civic Coalition activist working at this hospital, prosecutors would have long since been in the appropriate hospital offices securing documents,” he continued.

“What the supervisors of the prosecution service are doing today is discrediting this doctor and conducting a media campaign against him, combined with threats of criminal prosecution. Today, Mr. Giertych—without the slightest hesitation—is already referring to the doctor as a ‘criminal,’” he added, citing a social media post by the politician.
