“I have been waiting six weeks for a meeting with the Prime Minister. A coalition works well when coalition partners talk to each other”, said Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on TOK FM. The minister of funds and regional policy, who wants to take over the leadership of the Polska 2050 Party, had not been granted an opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Donald Tusk for a month and a half. Tusk, however, found time for “more important” matters, such as going mushroom picking, attending a football match, or recording videos in a railwayman’s cap.
A Month and a Half Without Time for a Minister
A few days ago, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz announced that she had decided to run for the leadership of the Polska 2050 Party. The minister of funds and regional policy plans to strengthen the party and prepare it for an independent run in the elections. She emphasized that she has been with the Polska 2050 Party from the beginning and was behind its successful 2023 campaign.
In Donald Tusk’s poorly rated government, she is one of the best-rated ministers. Combined with the fact that she is not from the Civic Platform but from what critics call a “satellite party”, this may be why the Prime Minister allegedly has no time for her. And the matter is important, because Pełczyńska-Nałęcz wants to discuss the position of deputy prime minister for herself.
“I have been waiting six weeks for a meeting with the Prime Minister. I strongly support the coalition, and I want it to function very well. A coalition works well when coalition partners talk to each other, and that’s why I’m ready at any moment, I’m waiting for this meeting”, she said, taking a jab at Tusk on TOK FM.
She was also asked about comments she had allegedly made during internal meetings of the Polska 2050 Party. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz was said to have spoken about the possibility of leaving the coalition in the final year before the elections. On the radio, however, she denied ever making such remarks.
“These are tabloid rumors. These are absolutely tabloid rumors. I have never in my life said such a thing at any meeting”, the minister insisted.
Tusk Prefers Football and Recording Videos
She stressed that the Polska 2050 Party is in the governing coalition in order to fulfill its commitments to voters. “As long as we can effectively deliver on them, we remain in the coalition”, she emphasized.
But can the party “effectively deliver” its commitments if, during the six weeks when Pełczyńska-Nałęcz tried to meet with Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister still found time to:
- travel to Lithuania for a football match,
- go mushroom picking in a suit (the mushrooms having been cut beforehand by someone else),
- record a video while wearing a railwayman’s cap, and another about watching Star Wars while eating popcorn,
- play football at the National Stadium,
- fly to Angola in an outfit completely unsuited to the occasion,
- appeal for reconciliation in the Sejm while simultaneously attacking President Nawrocki.
Well… everyone has their priorities.
