Power will change hands soon — and anyone who attempts to replace a statute with a government resolution and on that basis take out a German loan that indebts Poland will be held accountable before the courts — said Przemysław Czarnek, a Law and Justice (PiS) MP and the party’s candidate for prime minister, in the program “Gość Dzisiaj” on TV Republika. The politician was commenting on statements from representatives of the December 13 coalition suggesting that the SAFE loan would be taken despite the veto of President Karol Nawrocki.
SAFE law vetoed
President of Poland Karol Nawrocki announced that he would not sign the law concerning the EU SAFE loan.
“I will never sign a law that undermines our sovereignty, independence, economic security, and military security. At this point, I warn that any attempts to indebt our country abroad in an unlawful manner, through the back door, will sooner or later meet with both political and legal responsibility,” the head of state explained.
Przemysław Czarnek, a PiS MP and the party’s candidate for prime minister, was asked about this decision in the program “Gość Dzisiaj” on TV Republika.
“I am not surprised. We have patriots in the Presidential Chancellery. The nation elected President Nawrocki to protect Polish independence and sovereignty in the long term. The president appointed his ministers, led by Minister Zbigniew Bogucki, precisely to safeguard this most important aspect — independence — regardless of pressure. And the pressure is enormous. The blackmail is extraordinary,” he said.
He recalled that “Brussels is proposing an unfair German payday loan for something we do not entirely need, on terms that are completely unknown to us and which we would additionally have to negotiate with Ukraine — something that was supposed to bind us for 55 years.”
He added that “the president, together with the president of the National Bank of Poland, prepared the Polish program ‘Sejf 0 percent’ without any debt.”
In his view, “we cannot allow the loss of sovereignty, a spiked leash that people in Brussels could pull whenever they wish. We cannot allow the constitution to be violated.”
“The SAFE law is a violation of the Polish constitution and would place the Polish Armed Forces under Ms. von der Leyen — in other words, under Germany. I am glad that things turned out the way they did,” he stressed.
He then addressed members of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) and Poland 2050.
“I appeal to colleagues from PSL and Poland 2050, and especially to Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, who says he is a patriot. If you want to rapidly arm the army, you must immediately force the governing majority to proceed with the president’s bill on the Polish ‘Sejf 0 percent.’ Today everything is in the hands of those who must stop being Donald Tusk’s pushovers,” he said.
