Three Leaders Stood Without the Prime Minister. They Revealed What Was Agreed with Tusk: “The Emotions Were Intense”

The leaders of the ruling coalition held another meeting to discuss the way forward following Karol Nawrocki’s victory. It was agreed that a government reshuffle is imminent, and a government spokesperson is to be appointed.

Around 9:30 a.m. today, coalition leaders convened at the “Parkowa” residence complex, managed by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. In attendance were Prime Minister Donald Tusk (Civic Coalition), Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia (Polska 2050–TD), Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty (The Left), and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL–TD).

Talks with Tusk, Press Briefing Without Him

Following the meeting, a press briefing was held at the Sejm.

“It is a good thing that we had the opportunity to meet as we just did. There will be more meetings like this going forward,” said Speaker Hołownia. “Today, together with the Prime Minister, we made several concrete decisions regarding how our cooperation will proceed, both in the coming days and in the weeks ahead,” he added. Hołownia noted that the decisions pertain to organizational matters, policy direction, and a planned government reshuffle. He announced the upcoming appointment of a government spokesperson.

“A very important process began with today’s meeting, one that I believe will reassure voters—not only that we are drawing conclusions from the events around us, but also that we have a clear and concrete plan to strengthen the October 15 coalition over the next two years,” the Speaker stated.

Will the Government and Sejm Cooperate with the New President, Karol Nawrocki?

“In regard to Karol Nawrocki, I have extended an invitation to the president-elect to meet with me at the Sejm,” Hołownia announced. PSL leader Kosiniak-Kamysz also expressed openness to cooperation with the new president.
“Political differences exist, but they must not overshadow our fundamental responsibility: ensuring the security and well-being of our citizens,” he emphasized.

“We discussed everything that needs to move forward. The emotions were high. But what emerged from this was something positive: a coalition that is working together, united in purpose, with a plan for Poland and a genuine desire to serve as the best possible stewards for all citizens,” added the PSL leader.

Reshuffle in the Works. Will Hołownia Join the Government?

Will there be a change in the Speaker of the Sejm this autumn? This scenario is included in the coalition agreement, and Hołownia was asked about it directly. “My position remains unchanged. I will not join the government, nor will I assume the role of Deputy Speaker. I will remain an independent political figure and a Member of the Polish Parliament,” he declared.

On June 11, the Sejm is scheduled to hold a vote of confidence in the government.
“The Prime Minister’s address will bring together the various perspectives within the coalition, presenting a comprehensive plan and strategy for the years ahead,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz. A government reshuffle is also expected. “Reshuffles are a normal part of governance and should occur from time to time,” added Włodzimierz Czarzasty.
