“Today, people came to celebrate democracy. Although it still needs to be safeguarded until the very last moment,” said TV Republika editor-in-chief Tomasz Sakiewicz just before Karol Nawrocki’s inauguration as President of the Republic of Poland. Crowds gathered in front of the Sejm, including viewers of our station from all over Poland and the Polish diaspora – a clear sign that Republika stands today with the majority of the nation.
From all over the world to Warsaw
In front of the building of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, crowds of Republika supporters and participants of the inauguration ceremony of the new president, Karol Nawrocki, gathered:
“Tens of thousands of people are here from all over the world: from Australia, Paris, Germany, the United States. But above all, from every corner of Poland,” reported Sakiewicz. “I drove through Warsaw and saw columns of people with flags and banners. I haven’t seen such a massive event in a very long time,” he said.
According to the TV Republika CEO, the current authorities failed in their attempt to challenge the outcome of the presidential election:
“We must safeguard the choice made by Poles. This is a government that absolutely disregards any rules. Clinging to power is their only principle,” he said. He also recalled the attempts to destroy Republika. “That came to nothing. They failed, but we all succeeded,” he emphasized.
The head of the station also spoke about the symbolic importance of Republika’s presence at the event:
“Wherever we go, we hear chants: Republika, Republika! It’s chanted just like Solidarity,” he noted. He stressed that for many people this represents a renewal of the spirit of the fight for a free Poland. “This fight is still needed today,” he said.
