Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor-in-chief of Republika, highlighted the shifting dynamics in Ukraine’s international relations. He emphasized that after losing the support of the Morawiecki government, which was a reliable ally for the USA, Ukraine is now facing difficulties on the international stage.
A Tense Meeting at the White House
Today, February 28, 2025, a meeting took place between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. During the meeting, Trump accused Zelensky of “playing with World War III” and suggested that the US might withdraw its support if Ukraine does not strive for peace.
The meeting, which initially aimed to sign an agreement regarding the exploitation of Ukraine’s natural resources, quickly turned into a tense exchange. Trump criticized Zelensky for lacking gratitude for American assistance and warned against dictating terms. As a result of this confrontation, the planned agreement was not signed.
Ukraine’s Difficult Position
This meeting highlights Ukraine’s challenging situation on the international stage following political changes in Poland and the loss of a key ally in the form of Morawiecki’s government. The absence of a strong and reliable partner in the region may lead to greater difficulties in conducting effective foreign and defense policies.
