A devastating bus accident involving young football players has claimed more lives. Authorities and the Alit Ożarów football club confirmed the death of 43-year-old coach Damian Jędrzejewski, who is being hailed as a hero for his actions during the crash.
The accident occurred as the junior players of MKS Alit Ożarów were returning from an away league match against Korona Kielce. The bus, carrying 19 people, including 17 players, their coach, and the driver, veered off National Road 74 in Lechów and struck a tree. The 65-year-old driver died at the scene.
According to club president Grzegorz Witek, coach Jędrzejewski intervened when the driver fell ill at the wheel, attempting to steer the bus and prevent a more catastrophic outcome. Despite his efforts, Jędrzejewski was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Staszów.
