Training the Future: 10th Świętokrzyska Brigade’s Summer Volunteer Program

The 10th Świętokrzyska Territorial Defense Brigade’s basic training program is in full swing as part of the “Summer with the WOT” initiative. Beginning on July 6th, the program has welcomed nearly 70 new volunteers. These recruits recently had their first live-fire exercise at the Jędrzejów shooting range after passing a safety and weapon handling exam. Under the guidance of instructors and second-year cadets from the Military University of Technology, the volunteers successfully fired the MSBS Grot rifle for the first time.

    Building Responsibility

According to Colonel Sławomir Machniewicz, the brigade’s commander, new recruits are issued their MSBS Grot rifles on the first day and are required to keep them for 24 hours a day. This practice aims to instill a sense of responsibility among the soldiers from the onset of their training. The volunteers also undergo preparatory sessions to familiarize themselves with the weapons before engaging in live-fire exercises.

Private Karol, a high school student, described the first live-fire exercise as a significant day filled with stress and adrenaline. Thanks to their instructors, the recruits managed to perform well. The training will culminate in a final test known as the “tactical loop,” assessing the skills learned, followed by a military oath ceremony on July 21st in Kielce.

    A Unique Opportunity

The “Summer with the WOT” project offers a unique chance for young individuals to join the Territorial Defense Forces, taking their first steps into adulthood with a meaningful commitment. This 16-day basic training provides an opportunity to begin a military career and is also open to parents, teachers, and others looking for a productive way to spend their summer break. Continued participation in rotational training ensures ongoing development of military skills.
