This is not the first behind-the-scenes account suggesting that Donald Tusk threatened Szymon Hołownia. The issue reportedly concerned challenging the results of the presidential election and preventing Karol Nawrocki from being sworn in as president. In exchange for loyal and obedient participation in the coup, the leader of Poland 2050 was allegedly to face “punishment.” A sharp exchange of words is said to have occurred between Hołownia and Tusk.
“Political circles are buzzing with rumours of blackmail, threats, and ultimatums. According to these reports, Tusk allegedly warned he would “take Hołownia’s party away,” and that if early elections were held, the party would not make it into the Sejm. Conditions were reportedly laid out: absolute loyalty and obedience. Hołownia is said to have responded briefly, “If that happens, you’ll end up in jail,” writes Andrzej Gajcy in Tygodnik Solidarność.
This topic has been discussed for some time now, as this is not the first report of a serious conflict between Tusk and Hołownia, supposedly sparked by the Marshal of the Sejm refusing to participate in what was effectively a coup attempt.
The issue was also addressed during Saturday’s episode of the TV Republika program Rewolwer.
According to insider accounts, Hołownia refused to take part in the “plot,” for which he is already facing consequences from the prime minister’s circle. “In the background, a media smear campaign. The first target was Minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, loyal to Hołownia,” Gajcy analyses.
A new actor is also emerging in the growing internal coalition dispute: Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. “According to rumours, he was allegedly blackmailed with compromising tapes from his first marriage. Does Tusk possess them? It’s unclear. But politicians from PO and PSL keep repeating: ‘Tusk must have something on Władek. And it must be serious, given the control Donald has over him,’” reads the article in the weekly.
Warning Signs Came Earlier
Michał Rachoń, speaking on TV Republika, said that warning signs of Prime Minister Tusk preparing such a dangerous undertaking for the state could already be seen in his social media posts. The head of government wrote about a plan he needed to carry out and obstacles he encountered along the way.
