Donald Tusk’s government has secured a vote of confidence from the Sejm. The motion passed with 243 MPs in favor and 210 against, with no abstentions. In an interview with Niezalezna.pl, Law and Justice (PiS) MP Rafał Bochenek offered a scathing response to the result.
“This coalition will, of course, desperately cling to their ministerial and government posts,” Bochenek said. “This isn’t about Poland or constructive projects. It’s about entrenching the current power structure.”
Bochenek pointed to the June 1st presidential election, which saw PiS-backed candidate Karol Nawrocki defeat Civic Platform’s Rafał Trzaskowski, as evidence that “the citizens already showed this government the red card.”
The PiS lawmaker criticized the coalition’s internal dynamics, suggesting it is marked by personal rivalries and distrust.
“You only had to look at the faces of Tusk’s coalition partners and how unenthusiastic their reactions were to his speech—they don’t even like each other,” Bochenek noted.
“There’s mutual animosity and a lack of trust. This coalition is doomed to merely survive. They care only about reinforcing their grip on power within the government, even if it comes at Poland’s expense. They are putting party interests ahead of the national interest,” he concluded.
