“Once again, the system of political arrangements has protected itself,” “Shame and disgrace,” “von der Leyen stays, and with her the Green Deal and illegal migration” – this is how Law and Justice (PiS) MEPs are commenting on the outcome of yesterday’s vote on the motion of no confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. MEPs from Civic Coalition (KO), the Polish People’s Party (PSL), the Left, and Poland 2050 voted to defend the politician.
Motion of No Confidence Against the EC President – Voting Results
Yesterday, the European Parliament rejected two motions of no confidence against the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. One motion was rejected by 383 votes, the other by 378. The chamber has 720 MEPs in total.
MEPs from the Civic Coalition, the Polish People’s Party, the Left, and Poland 2050 voted against the motion of no confidence in the Commission President.
“Shame and Disgrace”
The fact that von der Leyen will continue to hold her position, thanks in part to votes from Polish MEPs, has been widely commented on online.
PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek wrote on X that “once again, the system of political deals has defended itself, even though her policies have become a symbol of an inefficient and ineffective EU.” According to him, “Europe needs reform, not more bureaucratic experiments.”
He then listed these “experiments”:
- Green Deal – higher costs, loss of competitiveness, and industrial flight.
- Migration Pact – forced relocation instead of genuine border protection.
- Chat Control, DSA/DMA – censorship and surveillance of citizens under the guise of “security.”
- Attack on the automotive sector – ban on combustion engine cars and barriers to their repair.
- Centralization and ideological decisions instead of practical solutions.
“This is yet another vote showing that the Union still fails to learn from its mistakes. Europe needs a new beginning – Ursula must finally go,” he concluded.
PiS MEP Tobiasz Bocheński reminded that “the worst President of the European Commission remains in office thanks to the votes of KO, PSL, Poland 2050, and the Left.”
“Von der Leyen means the Green Deal, illegal immigrants, new taxes, and economic disaster. Shame and disgrace,” he declared.
PiS MEP Anna Zalewska pointed out that “Tusk’s party defended von der Leyen – the motion to dismiss the German head of the European Commission was supported by 179 MEPs (+4 compared to the July attempt).”
“Von der Leyen stays – and with her, the Green Deal and illegal migration,” she announced.
PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska stated that “the European Union needs a new opening and common sense, not policies that harm citizens and the economies of member states.”
“I do not consent to: the costly Green Deal that burdens families and businesses, the forced relocation of migrants, decisions that harm European industry and drivers, and the harmful EU-Mercosur agreement,” she wrote.
