TV Republika Reveals New Recordings! Is Giertych Influencing Bodnar? Talks of Settlements

Telewizja Republika has released additional recordings in the unfolding “Tape Scandal 2.0”. The words captured on tape could shake Polish politics to its core. The latest recordings feature Roman Giertych, an MP from Civic Coalition (KO).

Tape Scandal 2.0

Just days ago, Telewizja Republika published recordings from 2019 involving Donald Tusk, Roman Giertych, and Paweł Graś. In those recordings, the current Prime Minister controversially referred to a segment of Polish voters as “idiots,” sparking widespread outrage. Another significant revelation included Giertych discussing the transfer of signatures supporting senatorial candidate Stanisław Gawłowski.

But that was only the beginning of Tape Scandal 2.0. Today, additional recordings surfaced, this time from the period when the current coalition government was already in power. These previously undisclosed tapes promise more political shockwaves.

In the first released fragment by TV Republika, Roman Giertych again takes center stage, discussing actions involving Tusk and Adam Bodnar, captured in early April 2025.

“Reforming the prosecutor’s office… At this stage, we couldn’t do anything because no change would have gotten past the president’s desk, making implementation impossible over the last year and a half. We simply must remove prosecutors who disgraced themselves by cooperating with the previous government’s illegal actions, preferably expelling them from the profession entirely. We also need to ensure the prosecutor’s office operates more efficiently. All this requires legislative changes that we simply couldn’t enact. Minister Bodnar has done a lot, in my opinion, but not everything I would have wanted. But that’s always the case—government never does everything we expect,” Giertych said.

He then emphasized that it is beneficial that Bodnar, rather than himself, serves as the public face of holding individuals accountable.

“I think he is a suitable face for these settlements. After elections, I would significantly change the prosecutor’s office. What we’ve managed so far—and this is our success as a team—is to convince public opinion that Law and Justice (PiS) acted unlawfully during its previous tenure,” he added.

“There was a poll regarding Kaczyński and the ‘Two Towers’ issue—two-thirds of respondents believe a crime was committed. Clearly, the public is convinced of criminal wrongdoing, a necessary condition for our political viability as KO politicians. The primary and most dangerous criticism from our opponents was that our actions were politically motivated revenge, not lawful accountability,” he stated in the recordings published by Republika.

“This accusation is obviously false but must be constantly challenged. It’s preferable that the response comes from Adam Bodnar rather than Roman Giertych. The Prime Minister shares this view, and we agreed on our roles. He’s right—it would be worse if accusations of politicization were stronger because I was the face of these proceedings and accelerated certain processes significantly. Nonetheless, they won’t escape accountability,” continued Giertych.

Finally, Giertych touched on the role of lawyers in political proceedings against PiS politicians.

“We already have materials, in my opinion, sufficient to bring charges against Ziobro. The prosecutor’s office already has enough evidence; I don’t know what they’re waiting for. The investigation into the ‘Two Towers’ case is progressing rapidly, thanks to Prosecutor Wrzosek. Other proceedings, such as irregularities concerning COVID managed by attorney Dubois, seem to be going well, especially when supported by attorneys,” he concluded.
