TVN24 has purchased sponsored posts on Facebook aimed at Karol Nawrocki, a presidential candidate supported by the Law and Justice party (PiS). The station’s actions quickly drew a response from PiS MP Dariusz Matecki, who announced he would report the matter to NASK and the public prosecutor’s office.
Is TVN Running an Illegal Campaign?
PiS MP Dariusz Matecki posted on X, drawing attention to the paid ads published on Facebook by… TVN24.
“Is TVN24 financing an illegal election campaign? They’re paying for sponsored posts that serve as election propaganda against Karol Nawrocki. The ads are funded by TVN24, not by Rafał Trzaskowski’s electoral committee,” the politician wrote.
He added that he would report the matter to NASK.
“This will be included in the next report to the National Electoral Commission (PKW) as well as in a consolidated complaint to the prosecutor’s office regarding the illegal financing of an election campaign that benefits Rafał Trzaskowski,” he emphasized.
Smear Campaign Against Nawrocki and Mentzen
There was recent public outcry over an online campaign targeting Karol Nawrocki and Sławomir Mentzen, which was reportedly funded by foreign entities. Tens of thousands of zlotys were spent on defamatory videos, which are still available online.
In response, U.S. Representative Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, expressing hope that the Commission would investigate concerns surrounding the financing of the Polish election campaign.
The letter was also signed by influential Congressman [Keith Self], who was recently praised by Rafał Trzaskowski and the head of the Polish parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Paweł Kowal. The Americans cited reporting by Wirtualna Polska, according to an article by Patryk Słowik and Szymon Jadczak on wp.pl.
