On Monday, Poland’s Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) identified two individuals suspected of working for a foreign intelligence agency, according to a senior security official. The SKW launched an investigation after receiving information that the two individuals had been attempting to influence Polish politics. The investigation is ongoing and further details have not been released.

Stanislaw Zaryn, the deputy minister coordinator of the security services, broke the news on Twitter.

Polish security services have arrested 20 individuals believed to be linked to Russian and Belarusian intelligence services since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24 of last year, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office. One man was arrested and is now facing charges for working for Russia, with a court having issued a three-month detention order.

“Evidence indicates that he gathered information, among other things on critical infrastructure in the (northern) Pomorskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie provinces and on the actions of (security) services and bodies responsible for security,” said the statement, adding that the man had admitted to the crime.

A foreign man has been charged with working on behalf of the Belarusian intelligence services after being detained in the eastern city of Lublin on March 1.

According to the court, the man had been gathering reconnaissance data on facilities key to Polish security and connected with the armed forces. He has since been placed under three months’ arrest.
