U.S. Condemns Russia’s Actions: UN Ambassador Warns of “Provocation or Loss of Control”

The incursion of Russian fighter jets into Estonian airspace is either a deliberate escalation of the conflict or proof that the Kremlin lacks full control over its own armed forces. Such a clear assessment of the situation was delivered by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Michael Waltz, during a meeting of the Security Council.

In his address at the UN, Ambassador Waltz, known for his conservative views and firm stance on security issues, did not mince words. He referred to the recent incident involving Russian drones over Poland, presenting the violation of Estonian airspace as another dangerous step in the same strategy.

“This event, coming on the heels of Russian drones entering Polish airspace, gives the impression that Russia either wants to escalate the conflict and drag other countries into it, or that it does not have full control over those operating its fighter jets and drones,” Waltz declared.

Disturbing Scenarios and Nuclear Power

The ambassador emphasized that both possible explanations for Russia’s actions are extremely alarming. He pointed to the global danger posed by the unpredictability of a power equipped with a nuclear arsenal.

“Each of these scenarios is deeply troubling, given that Russia is a nuclear power with global reach. Once again, I call on Russia, as a permanent member of this Council, to uphold international peace and security, to respect the sovereignty of its neighbors, and to cease violating their airspace,” he added.

Rising Debate in Europe

It should be noted that debate is intensifying in Europe over an adequate response to Russia’s repeated provocations. In recent days, a series of incidents has occurred, including the interception of a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea by German fighter jets, as well as a violation of the security zone around a Polish extraction platform.

Unwavering Commitment to NATO

Mike Waltz, who, before assuming his post at the UN, served as a congressman from Florida and was the first Special Forces “Green Beret” veteran in Congress, concluded his speech with a strong statement. He reaffirmed the United States’ unconditional commitment to the defense of its allies and called on Moscow to immediately end the war in Ukraine.
