U.S. Halts Funding for ‘Tour de Konstytucja’

The United States has officially cut off funding for the left-wing Tour de Konstytucja project, marking a major shift in foreign aid priorities. This decision, led by the Trump administration, signals a move away from financing foreign progressive initiatives that align with Poland’s liberal opposition.

Exposing the Financial Backers

According to Polish MP Dariusz Matecki, the project has long been a tool of the opposition, with key figures deeply embedded in leftist politics. “Tour de Konstytucja is not some neutral civic initiative—it’s a project backed by liberal elites,” Matecki stated. One of its most prominent supporters is Adam Bodnar, a former Commissioner for Human Rights who now serves as Prosecutor General under the Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska). Recently, Bodnar faced scrutiny for allegedly interfering in an investigation linked to himself.

The project is managed by Fundacja Aktywna Demokracja (Active Democracy Foundation), headed by Robert Hojda. Hojda is also associated with “Video-KOD,” a media outlet known for its anti-government stance. “Hojda was actively involved in Rafał Trzaskowski’s campaign, and now he’s running a supposedly independent civic initiative? Give me a break,” said Matecki.

Who Funded It?

Tour de Konstytucja has enjoyed backing from organizations known for their left-leaning activism, including the Open Society Foundation, the Committee for the Defense of Democracy (KOD), Women’s Strike, and several judicial associations. OKO.press, a publication known for its opposition to the ruling government, also supported the initiative.

In 2023 alone, the project reported revenues of 979,078.91 PLN, with 254,731.96 PLN coming from European funds and another 435,938.33 PLN from unnamed “other sources.” “This is not grassroots activism; it’s a well-oiled machine of political influence,” Matecki argued.
