Unofficially: Another case of cholera in Poland. This time in Lublin Region

A second case of cholera infection has been detected in Poland. The patient is reportedly a 65-year-old man from Lublin, whose test results came back positive twice – reports rmf24.pl.

The portal stated that the man arrived at a Lublin hospital with symptoms of severe food poisoning. The head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Medical University of Lublin said that the man had not traveled abroad.

This is the second confirmed case of cholera in Poland in recent days.

The first case was reported on Sunday. It concerned an elderly woman from West Pomerania. The patient is being treated in Szczecin, and the infection was confirmed by two separate tests. “In response to the received notification of a suspected cholera case, confirmed by two independent laboratories, we have taken three courses of action. The first, of course, is the treatment of the patient herself – she is currently in the hands of the best infectious disease specialists. The second course involves actions aimed at preventing the transmission of the disease in the community, including placing close contacts under quarantine. The third is an epidemiological investigation to determine the source of the patient’s infection. Cholera is an ultra-rare disease in Poland, which until now had only been brought in from outside our borders,” said Paweł Grzesiowski, Chief Sanitary Inspector, at the time.

He emphasized that the woman had not left the country, nor had anyone in her immediate surroundings.
