Vandalism Against Religious Symbols: A Call for Prayer and Reflection in Bydgoszcz

A recent act of vandalism in Bydgoszcz targeting a Virgin Mary statue has prompted a prayer for repentance and reflection, as the parish condemns the attack on religious symbols.

Vandalism at St. Nicholas Parish in Bydgoszcz

On Wednesday, February 19, a prayer service will take place at St. Nicholas Parish in Stary Fordon, Bydgoszcz, in response to a recent desecration of a statue of the Virgin Mary. The statue, located near the church, was severely damaged by an unknown individual who reportedly used a metal rod to strike it. The destruction was so extensive that it was compared to a gunshot wound, leaving only the head, heart, and open hands intact. Parish leaders condemned the act, emphasizing its deep impact on the religious community.

A Call for Repentance and Accountability

In a statement, Father Karol Glesmer, the parish priest, voiced strong condemnation, stressing that such actions should not be tolerated as they harm the religious sentiments of believers. A prayer for the “repentance and conversion” of the perpetrators will be held during the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This incident is the latest in a series of similar attacks against religious figures across Poland, following another desecration of a Fatima statue in early February.
