Via Baltica Now Open! Presidents Nawrocki and Nausėda Couldn’t Hide Their Joy — SEE PHOTOS

“The section of the Via Baltica route connecting Poland and Lithuania is much more than just a transport corridor,” said President Karol Nawrocki during the opening ceremony of the new motorway link between the two countries. See the photos below!

On Monday, Polish President Karol Nawrocki met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on the Polish-Lithuanian border, where they took part in the opening ceremony of the Via Baltica highway — the only road of its class connecting the Baltic states with Poland and the rest of Europe.

Construction of the Via Baltica route in Poland was completed at the beginning of October, when the final section — the entire Łomża bypass — was opened to traffic. During Monday’s ceremony on the Lithuanian side, President Nawrocki emphasized that the overpass linking Poland and Lithuania is both a physical and symbolic bridge between two closely related nations with a shared history and values. At the same time, he noted, it represents the connection of all three Baltic states with the rest of Europe.

In this context, Nawrocki recalled recent steps bringing the Baltic countries closer to Europe — such as the synchronization of their power grids with the European network, disconnection from the Russian system, and Lithuania’s acquisition of the floating LNG terminal Independence.

The president also highlighted the major economic significance of the new route, describing it as a “key transport corridor for the entire region,” which will help attract investment and create new jobs.
