Warsaw Lawyer Arrested for False Assassination Threats Against Polish President

Police have announced the arrest of a 48-year-old man suspected of sending false reports about alleged assassination plots. According to the messages, the intended targets included the President of Poland and the Foreign Minister. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stated that the suspect is a “well-known Warsaw lawyer.”

“The arrest of the 48-year-old was the result of meticulous investigative work. Operational findings, analyses, and carefully conducted procedural activities led investigators to identify the man,” police said in a statement.

Officers from Warsaw’s anti-terror unit were supported during the operation by counterterrorism personnel from BOA, specialists from the Warsaw Police Headquarters forensic laboratory, and intelligence and patrol officers.

Weapons, Ammunition, and Documents Seized

During the operation, officers were forced to enter an apartment in the Polish capital. A search of the premises led to the seizure of electronic equipment, including laptops, data storage devices, and mobile phones.

Police also discovered badges from various services, as well as firearms, firearm components, and a substantial quantity of ammunition. Documents issued to other individuals—including identity cards, driver’s licenses, and residence permits—were also found in the apartment.

Additional dangerous items, including ammunition and ten artillery shells, were discovered in a vehicle used by the suspect.

After the operation, the man was placed in police custody, while all seized items were transferred for further forensic examination.

Seven Criminal Charges

Prosecutors have brought seven charges against the suspect. These include sending false reports to state authorities regarding alleged preparations for attacks on senior government officials while impersonating individuals who had previously held important public positions.

Investigators also accuse him of unlawfully possessing other people’s documents, as well as illegally holding weapons and ammunition.

According to the findings, the suspect attached various objects and documents to his correspondence in an effort to make his claims appear credible while directing suspicion toward unrelated individuals. One of the packages reportedly contained ammunition.

Police stated that investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the suspect may be connected to other similar offenses.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of eight years in prison. At the prosecutor’s request, a court ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention for three months.

Commenting on the arrest, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński wrote on X:

“Another suspect arrested in connection with false alarms and impersonation. This time in a different case from the recent ones. It is a well-known Warsaw lawyer.”
