Wąsik on the South Hospital case: “Nothing failed here – this was a deliberately built system”

“This is not just Dawid Kacprzyk’s scandal. It started with him, but in reality this is a scandal involving the entire Civic Coalition (KO) system in Warsaw, and probably beyond,” said former Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration and current MEP for Law and Justice (PiS) Maciej Wąsik, commenting on the irregularities uncovered at Warsaw’s South Hospital.

The case involving Dawid Kacprzyk, a former Civic Coalition (KO) councillor, came to light following an investigation by the Portal Zero news outlet. According to its findings, Kacprzyk allegedly worked 3,976 hours at Warsaw’s South Hospital in 2025 – an average of 331 hours per month – with some of his shifts lasting as long as four consecutive days without interruption.

He reportedly received approximately PLN 1.6 million for his work and served as the Emergency Department coordinator despite lacking the required medical specialization. Journalists also reported that Civic Coalition (KO) politicians received preferential treatment at the hospital through a dedicated “VIP lounge.” After the revelations, the doctor returned PLN 500,000 to the hospital.

The hospital’s former Head of the Emergency Department, Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, publicly made serious allegations against Kacprzyk. Authorities are also expected to investigate deaths that occurred in the Emergency Department under Kacprzyk’s supervision.

Civil Coalition (KO) politicians have distanced themselves from the young doctor. Many have argued that the case must be thoroughly investigated and described the hospital as an example of a system that sometimes fails.

“The system has been exposed”

Maciej Wąsik, former Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, disagrees. Speaking on TV Republika, the Law and Justice (PiS) politician said: “Nothing failed here. This was a deliberately built system privatized by Civic Coalition (KO) activists […] and this scandal has simply exposed that system.”

“This is not just Dawid Kacprzyk’s scandal. It started with him, but in reality this is a scandal involving the entire Civic Coalition (KO) system in Warsaw, and probably beyond,” the MEP emphasized.

Wąsik listed what he described as the key facts: “We have a young doctor without the appropriate qualifications who worked in a senior position and earned enormous amounts of money. A separate pathway was created for politicians so they could receive treatment quickly and under special conditions. A system was created to protect this young man and allow him to make money because he was useful to politicians, so they protected him and ensured he continued earning.”

According to Wąsik, another system was created in which “the whistleblower, rather than the person responsible for the wrongdoing, is blamed.” “That is very characteristic of the Civic Coalition (KO),” he said, adding that a similar mechanism had operated during the so-called gambling scandal of 2009.

The Law and Justice (PiS) politician argued that those currently in power want Dr. Jędrzejewski to bear the consequences of the affair.
