Following the outbreak of the scandal at Warsaw Southern Hospital, members of the facility’s supervisory and management boards lost their positions, as did two deputy mayors of Warsaw. However, according to findings by TV Republika, Adam M., Dawid Kacprzyk’s former superior, remains the head of the hospital’s Emergency Department. He not only supervised Kacprzyk’s work but also recommended the young doctor for meetings at the Polish Senate and involved him in preparing a presentation for an international conference.
Kacprzyk scandal: Department head explains why he recommended him as a doctor
Dawid Kacprzyk, who is not yet 30, is a former Warsaw councillor and activist associated with the Civic Coalition. He is at the centre of the scandal surrounding Warsaw Southern Hospital. The Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation into the case. To date, however, prosecutors have neither questioned him nor secured any of his electronic data storage devices or documents.
As TV Republika revealed, Kacprzyk served as Emergency Department coordinator for at least three months before obtaining his licence to practise medicine. His immediate superior was Adam M., the long-serving head of the hospital’s Emergency Department. According to TV Republika’s findings, he remains in the position despite the scandal. His contract with the hospital is due to expire at the end of August.
This may prove controversial because the scandal and subsequent media revelations concerning Kacprzyk’s activities have already led to the dismissal of members of the hospital’s supervisory and management boards, as well as two deputy mayors of Warsaw.
When contacted by TV Republika, Adam M. declined to comment on Kacprzyk’s activities in the Emergency Department or on the abuses and irregularities uncovered by the media in the department he managed.
“I have already testified on this matter at the prosecutor’s office, and the prosecutor has prohibited me from commenting on these issues or answering the questions you have put to me while the investigation is ongoing,”
Adam M. wrote in response to TV Republika’s questions.
He also asked the outlet not to publish his surname because, as he argued, he “is not a public figure.”
However, according to TV Republika’s findings, it was Adam M. who provided significant support to Kacprzyk’s career. He recommended his subordinate for meetings of the Parliamentary Group for Innovation and Scientific Research in Healthcare, chaired by Civic Coalition senator Agnieszka Gorgoń-Komor.
“Dawid Kacprzyk was included on the list of guests recommended by his superior, Adam M., and was invited to the Senate for meetings of the group two or three times.”
How did the head of the Southern Hospital Emergency Department respond?
“I can confirm Senator Agnieszka Gorgoń-Komor’s statement that I recommended Dawid Kacprzyk for meetings at the Senate as a young, talented and hardworking doctor,”
Adam M. said.
He added:
“I never supported Dawid Kacprzyk’s career, or that of any other doctor. I did, however, try to pass on my knowledge, experience and skills to every doctor who wanted to benefit from them. Dawid Kacprzyk was one such young doctor. As I approach the end of my career, I believe it is my duty to train young physicians. Every year, I become involved in training approximately five or six young female and male doctors who give up their time during their internships to acquire knowledge and experience in the Emergency Department. We usually go our separate ways afterwards, but I am pleased to hear that they have learned a great deal from me. Dawid Kacprzyk additionally agreed to serve as coordinator. This did not mean managing the Emergency Department. His responsibilities were limited to preparing staff schedules. In many hospitals, this role is performed by nurses. Preparing schedules is always the greatest challenge because of the shortage of doctors willing to work in emergency departments. I do not support anyone’s career in any way other than by sharing my medical knowledge and experience.”
He helped prepare a presentation for the European Emergency Medicine Congress
That was not all. Kacprzyk also helped Adam M. prepare a presentation for an international conference.
“On one occasion, I was the author of a presentation submitted to the European Emergency Medicine Congress in Paris, which is scheduled to take place this September. Dawid Kacprzyk is one of the co-authors of the presentation and helped me prepare it. The presentation concerns our diagnostic successes at the Emergency Department of Southern Hospital. I would be grateful if the media also reported that we have achieved successes recognised by the Scientific Committee in Paris,”
Adam M. wrote.
In 2025, Kacprzyk earned PLN 1.6 million from his work at the Emergency Department of Southern Hospital, which Adam M. had headed for years. The young doctor, who simultaneously served as the department’s coordinator, a Warsaw councillor and a Civic Coalition activist, was paid for working nearly 4,000 hours, equivalent to approximately 11 hours every day.
Beginning in February 2026, he combined his work at Southern Hospital with employment at Mazovian Bródno Hospital. TV Republika revealed that in that first month alone, he reportedly worked a combined 496 hours at the two facilities: 340 hours at Southern Hospital and 156 hours at Bródno Hospital. This amounted to almost 18 hours a day.
It is now known that some of those shifts were fictitious. When the scandal broke, Kacprzyk not only left both hospitals but also resigned from his position as a Warsaw councillor and gave up his membership in the Civic Coalition. He also began repaying part of the remuneration he had received.
The young doctor corrected his invoices and returned approximately PLN 500,000 to Southern Hospital for hours in 2026 that he had not actually worked. Kacprzyk also transferred PLN 80,000 back to Bródno Hospital. Part of that amount related specifically to February 2026.
