“We want revenge, because that wasn’t just your promise,” said TVN celebrity Jakub Wojewódzki, addressing Prime Minister Donald Tusk with an explicit demand. The head of government responded that he wasn’t sure how to satisfy Wojewódzki’s “particularly bloodthirsty appetite.”
October 15 marked two years since the parliamentary elections that brought the December 13 coalition to power. To mark the occasion, the prime minister gave an interview to Jakub Wojewódzki and Piotr Kędzierski. The TVN celebrity, known for his strong aversion toward the political right, confronted Tusk during the program with a direct appeal — calling for “revenge” and “retribution” against the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
“We, your voters, expected something called a kind of social justice, which was supposed to be revenge for those eight years. We expect it — a bit as populists, and I say this honestly, looking you in the eye, because populism hasn’t ended in Poland. It’s just that the party has changed, and now it plays populism differently. But we want revenge, because that wasn’t just your promise. In my opinion, it’s your ethical and moral obligation,” Wojewódzki demanded.
The celebrity then received the following response from Tusk:
“I’m not really sure how I could satisfy your particularly bloodthirsty appetite.”
“Do you call the return to a certain ethical balance bloodthirsty?” Wojewódzki pressed further.
The prime minister went on to claim that under his government, the “independence” of the courts and the prosecutor’s office had allegedly been restored.
