What a catch! Poles caught the largest catfish in the world – it measured 292 cm

Poles Krzysztof Pyra and Adrian Gontarz caught the largest catfish in the world this weekend. The record-breaking fish was caught by spinning during the Mikado Cup competition in Rybnik and measured 292 centimeters. The largest catfish ever caught before was 7 cm shorter.

The competition took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Rybnik Reservoir, where participants fished from boats. Before the event, the organizers promoted it by writing that “for years, the Rybnik Reservoir has been famous for its record-breaking predatory fish”, encouraging anglers to try their luck. It turned out that Adrian Gontarz and Krzysztof Pyra indeed succeeded. The Poles had to pull the record fish out together, as a 292-centimeter catfish is not an easy opponent to handle.

The previous record stood at 285 cm – such a catfish was caught in Italy in the Po River.
