The leader of the Law and Justice Party (PiS), Jarosław Kaczyński, visited Siedlce (Masovian Voivodeship) yesterday, where he spoke about the security of Polish citizens—both in terms of crime and police operations as well as global security.
“Those who do not defend themselves, who do not know how to defend themselves, who lack the means to defend themselves—will not be defended by the others. Secondly, an alliance with the United States. Why the United States? Some say: ‘But it’s far away, and we don’t know what they will do.’ But do we know what Germany will do? Maybe they will bring us helmets? Secondly, Europe today lacks strength, whereas the United States remains the most militarily powerful country in the world. That is the fundamental difference: Russia fears the United States, but it laughs at Western Europe,”
Kaczyński stated.
He added that “various gentlemen from Western Europe” might make phone calls to Putin, but “I don’t know whether Putin is bored or just entertained by it, but it achieves nothing. When it comes to negotiations with the Americans, however, it is incomparably more serious, because that ‘partner’ possesses actual, real strength.”
Regarding Poland’s military spending, Kaczyński emphasized that PiS has overturned the prevailing belief—shared by a significant portion of society—that spending PLN 50 billion on the army is excessive. Under the Law and Justice government, defence expenditures have been significantly higher.
“We asked the General Staff what is needed for Poland to be able to defend itself independently for an extended period. We received two answers: one option was a larger army with less equipment, and the other was a smaller army with more equipment. We chose the latter because, at present, Poland does not have a large pool of candidates for military service. That is why this option was easier to implement,”
the PiS leader explained.
As a result, contracts have been signed for the procurement of military equipment from the United States and South Korea.
