Member of the European Parliament Anna Anna Bryłka from Confederation informed on social media about submitting a request to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to revoke the order awarded to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
MEPs request revocation of the European Merit Order awarded to Zelenskyy
As Anna Bryłka recalled, President Zelenskyy received the European Merit Order from the European Parliament in recognition of his “exceptional contribution to European integration and European values” and for “promoting and defending the values enshrined in the Treaties”.
She added:
“It is impossible to reconcile European values with the glorification of genocide and ethnic cleansing. One cannot build the identity of one’s state and society on such a monstrous crime,” said the MEP from Confederation Anna Bryłka.
On behalf of a group of several dozen MEPs, I submitted today to Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, a request to revoke the distinction of the European Merit Order, awarded on May 19, 2026, to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in connection with his recent decisions publicly honoring and glorifying the criminal Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), a formation responsible for mass crimes of genocide against civilians committed in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland.
The European Merit Order is awarded in recognition of individuals who have made a significant contribution to European integration or to the promotion and defense of the values enshrined in the Treaties. It is intended to inspire future generations toward civic courage and engagement in European ideals.
President Karol Karol Nawrocki demands revocation of Zelenskyy’s order
Last week, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy granted one of the units of his country’s Armed Forces the name of the “Heroes of the UPA”. The decision by the Ukrainian leader sparked a wave of outrage in Poland.
President Karol Nawrocki announced almost immediately that he intends to take steps aimed at depriving Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, of the Order of the White Eagle.
